DHHS - The Impact of Hearing Loss Workshop

The Impact of Hearing Loss: If you know someone who is hard of hearing or late deafened, this workshop will provide a keen awareness of what it is like to live with an acquired hearing loss. Partake in a simulated hearing loss and speechreading exercises and learn successful communication strategies.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services (DHHS), a program of the Minnesota Department of Human Services, is excited to share information about its upcoming training seminars on a myriad of topics related to hearing loss. We ask that the attachment be included with your Intranet announcements and/or posted on your website as viable FREE training opportunities for your staff and other individuals who may be interested.
Whether your staff is looking for “diversity” related training or they want to learn more about hearing loss, these training seminars will meet their needs. All seminars are scheduled at the DHHS Metro location in downtown St. Paul and pre-registration is required.
Did you know that 1 out of 5 individuals 12 years and older has a hearing loss? Hearing loss greatly impacts all aspects of a person’s life, including their work life. Learn to better communicate with co-workers who are hard of hearing, acquire an appreciation of Deaf Culture and much more!
Accommodations
If you need a sign language interpreter or other accommodation, you must notify us at least two weeks prior to the training session.
Assistive listening devices (ALDs) are available at all times. Ask the presenter for a receiver on the day of your session.
DHHS - Deaf Culture Class

Deaf Culture: Learn more about the vibrant Deaf Community – its history, values, norms, traiditons and the impact of deafness in everyday life. Helpful communication tips, factsheets and current community resources will be shared during this training. Panel members who are deaf will join a portion of this training to talk about their personal experiences as a deaf person and to answer questions from participants.
