Should I get vaccinated if I have had the flu since the spring of 2009?
The symptoms of influenza are similar to many other viruses. There are seasonal viruses and the H1N1 virus; and vaccines have been developed for each of them. Since most people will not be tested for the specific influenza H1N1; it will be difficult to determine if the flu they had was H1N1 or not. However, even if you have the H1N1 virus, being vaccinated will not hurt. Conversely, if you have had a confirmed case of H1N1 you will not need to have the H1N1 vaccine. You should get both the seasonal and the H1N1 vaccine if your doctor recommends them.
