Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Education Licensure

Published 08-26-2010

The Board of Teaching voted to launch rulemaking to enact recommended changes for licensure of teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing at their August 6, 2010, public meeting. These include recommendations of for teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing.

MCDHH Intern Julie Storck has created a webpage on Minnesota Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing State Licensure. (Great job Julie!) We have been involved with the licensure review process with the Board of Teaching and found that it was difficult to find information about the history of the laws and rulemaking related to teachers of the deaf and hard of hearing and the requirements for obtaining and keeping a license in Minnesota. This resource will be of great value to teachers, parents, students, advocates and members of the community. We will be integrating this into our site in the coming weeks. Everyone will be alerted when this happens.

The site will also include the commission’s history of advocating to ensure that all perspectives were included in the rulemaking process and a link to the proposed changes to the rules. Next, the department will issue a Statement of Need and Reasonableness and allow time for comments and hearings. We will keep you informed.
