Oct. 8 to Oct. 12 – Buy a cup of coffee for the Pink Deafies, a deaf breast cancer support group
The Pink Deafies is a breast cancer support group for Deaf women in Minnesota. United under the banner of a quilt, the women meet monthly to offer support to one another, to plan educational conferences, and to discuss how to reach out to more women who might benefit from the group’s work.
During the week of Oct. 8 through Oct. 12, Lucy’s Café in St. Paul will donate 10 cents to the Pink Deafies for each cup of coffee that is bought. The Pink Deafies’ quilt will also be on display during this week.
Visit Lucy’s Café in the Griggs-Midway Building at 540 Fairview Ave., St. Paul, MN 55104. The café is open Monday – Friday during 7:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Oct. 14 – Join the Bowl-a-Thon for CSD’s domestic violence/sexual violence program
Communication Services for the Deaf of MN (CSD of MN) has a Domestic Violence/Sexual Violence (DV/SV) program that serves deaf, deafblind and hard of hearing people and their families by providing them with access to services to end violence in their life.
This program helps empower those in need with information, knowledge, education, and support to leave abusive situations, find places of safety, and lead new lives. The program also trains deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing allies to become advocates.
In the past year, 63 women and their children, 5 men, and 2 other individuals have been served. The program’s current goal is to double the number of people served.
Come join the Bowl-a-Thon on Sunday, October 14th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Park Tavern Bowling and Entertainment Center (3401 Louisiana Ave. S., St. Louis Park, MN 55426).
